Senior Java Backend Engineer (Communications Platform)
We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer to help build and scale a customer communications platform — a distributed system running on a modern in-house Kubernetes platform.
The platform keeps users informed about the state of their accounts: transactional notifications, payment and withdrawal statuses, bonuses, marketing messages, and regulatory communications. Messages are delivered across email, SMS, push notifications, and on-site channels, at high volume and with strict reliability expectations.
You will join a distributed team working across multiple locations, collaborating in English on a daily basis. We are looking for a proactive, self-directed engineer who takes ownership of what they build and genuinely cares about quality.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Java/Spring Boot microservices that deliver customer communications at scale
- Develop and maintain REST APIs for internal and partner integrations
- Work with message brokers and asynchronous messaging to move high volumes of notifications reliably
- Deploy and run services on Kubernetes using Docker containers
- Model and query relational data, and keep persistence performant under load
- Contribute to architectural decisions across a distributed, microservice-based system
- Own reliability, observability, and quality for the services you build
- Collaborate daily with a distributed, multi-location engineering team
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Solid experience with microservice architectures and distributed systems
- Hands-on experience designing and building REST APIs
- Experience with message-oriented middleware — JMS/Solace preferred, other brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ or IBM MQ also welcome
- Working knowledge of relational databases; Oracle is a plus but expert-level knowledge is not required
- Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes
- Comfortable communicating in English in a distributed, multi-location team
- Proactive and independent, able to take ownership and drive quality
- iGaming experience is a plus, but not required
- AI experience is a plus, but not required
